An Iftar Gathering with Sabahan students pursuing higher education at institutions across Peninsular Malaysia was held on 8 March 2026 at the Setia City Convention Centre in Shah Alam. The gathering brought together Sabah’s future generation in the spirit of Ramadan, while strengthening their connection with the State Government and the organisations committed to supporting their educational journey.
The gathering was organised as an engagement between the students and the Chief Minister of Sabah, who also serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Yayasan Sabah. The event was officiated by Datuk Armizan bin Mohd Ali, Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, on behalf of YAB Datuk Seri Panglima Datuk Haji Hajiji bin Haji Noor, Chief Minister of Sabah.
Beyond sharing the blessings of iftar, the programme provided a meaningful platform for students to engage with government representatives and education-related agencies. It reflected the State Government’s continued concern for the welfare, development and academic aspirations of Sabahans studying away from home.
A number of departments and institutions play an important role in providing financial assistance to Sabahan students who continue their studies in Peninsular Malaysia. These include the Sabah State Education Department, Sabah State Public Service Department, Sabah Islamic Religious Council, Sabah State Baitulmal Corporation, Sabah Welfare Foundation, Yayasan Sabah Group and the Sabah Education Fund.
Through scholarships, educational assistance and other forms of financial support, these organisations help ease the burden faced by students and their families. Their collective efforts also contribute towards expanding access to higher education and developing knowledgeable, capable and competitive human capital for Sabah’s future.
The gathering concluded on a warm and harmonious note, reinforcing the bonds of fellowship among the students and reminding them that, despite being far from home, they remain an important part of Sabah’s development. It is hoped that the students will continue to pursue excellence, uphold good values and ultimately contribute their knowledge and experience to the progress of the State and the nation.
